
Exemptions remain valid
- until they reach their expiry date.
- Until – prior to their expiry – someone successfully applies for the revocation of exemptions.
- after the expiry date if their continuation is requested in time by a timely request for renewal.
Exemption validity periods cannot exceed the maximum periods defined in Art. 5 (2) as illustrated in Figure 1. They depend on the category of equipment in which they are used.

Exemptions of RoHS Annex IV are only applicable to EEE of categories 8 and 9. Their maximum validity period is 7 years. Like other exemptions they can be continued/renewed upon successful request for another maximum period of 7 years.
